Camu camu fatty acids are 36% saturated and 53% polyunsaturated. There is high amount of vitamin C content in Camu berries ranging between 2000 mg - 5000 mg in every 100 grams of peel and 1300 mg - 3000 mg in every 100 grams of fruit pulp. Carotenoids present are beta-carotene, all-trans-lutein, luteoxanthin and violaxanthin. It contains minerals like potassium 839 mg per kg, magnesium 124 mg/kg, calcium 157 mg/ kg, manganese 21 mg/kg, sodium 111 mg/kg, zinc 3.6 mg/kg and iron 5.3 mg/kg. The fruit also consist of volatile terpenes such as d-limonene, alpha-pinene and beta-caryophyllene as well as terpene alcohols including fenchol, eucalyptol, 4-terpineol and alpha-terpineol. Anthocyanins present in the fruit include delphinidin-3-glucoside and cyanidin-3-glucoside. Other compounds present include germacrene B, alpha-calacorene and palmitic acid (hexadecanoic acid). Camu camu leaves consist of the compounds 4-(alpha-rhamnopyranosyl)-ellagic acid, 4-O-methylellagic acid and ellagic acid. According to clinical studies, these substances are inhibitors of aldose reductase which catalyses the conversion of glucose to sorbitol. The effect of this enzyme is prolonged in diabetes suffering patients and may effect the nerve and kidney complications and diabetic eye.
