How Chlorella Interacts With Drugs?

Following is how chlorella powder interacts with different drugs: Immunosuppressant Drugs - The concomitant use of chlorella vulgaris and immunosuppressant drugs pose an interaction of moderate degree, which might require careful use. Chlorella, being an immune stimulating agent, might result in the suppression of function of immunosuppressant drugs. Some researchers have also shown concern that use of chlorella powder might result in colonization of pathogens in humans. Therefore, patients on immunosuppressant therapy should never use chlorella vulgaris without the recommendation of their doctor. Some immunosuppressant drugs include corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), azathioprine (Imuran), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), basiliximab (Simulect), sirolimus (Rapamune), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf) and daclizumab (Zenapax). Warfarin (Coumadin) - This is another moderate interaction of chlorella with drugs. Caution is advised. Vitamin K is an important component of coagulation cascade. Due to its high content of vitamin K, concomitant use of chlorella and warfarin might decrease the anticoagulant action of warfarin.
