Propranolol - This interaction is of moderate nature but still caution should be observed. Results of a clinical trial showed that taking a single dose (200 mg) of a water based extract of Eurycoma Longifolia along with a single dose (80 mg) of Inderal (propranolol) can significantly decrease the level of propranolol. The levels of propranolol were decreased by 29% in that experiment. Moreover, the peak concentration of propranolol was decreased by 42%. The time taken by propranolol to reach its maximum concentration also showed a 86% increase. However, factors like elimination half life of propranolol were not affected. This shows that use of long jack decreases the level of propranolol in the blood by decreasing its absorption from the gut rather than increasing its clearance from the body. However, the way it decreases the absorption of propranolol from the gut is still unknown. It is also unclear if separating the administration would prevent this interaction from happening.
