Anti-Diabetic Drugs - Interaction rating between glucomannan powder and anti-diabetic drugs is moderate, so be careful about this combination. This combination may lessen blood glucose levels in those patients who are suffering from type II diabetes and may show additive effects on patient’s glucose levels when utilized with antidiabetes drug therapy. So, such patients should measure their blood glucose level regularly. Some antidiabetes drugs include glyburide (Glynase PresTab, DiaBeta, Micronase), rosiglitazone (Avandia), glimepiride (Amaryl), pioglitazone (Actos), insulin and other drug contained as well. Oral Drugs - Interaction rating between Amorphophallus konjac and various types of oral drugs is balanced so be careful about this combination. Glucomannan may reduce orally taken drugs absorption including sulfonylurea drugs. Some of sulfonylurea drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), chlorpropamide (Diabinese), glyburide (Micronase, Glynase PresTab, DiaBeta), glipizide (Glucotrol). Therefore, such drugs should be used 1 hour before or 4 hours after consuming glucomannan powder.

How Glucomannan Interacts With Foods?

There is no known interaction between Amorphophallus konjac and various food items.

How Glucomannan Interacts With Lab Tests?

Cholesterol - Glucomannan powder maybe responsible for decrease in LDL cholesterol, serum total cholesterol and test results in type II diabetic adults and obese adult as well. Glucose - Amorphophallus konjac may also lessen the concentrations of blood glucose and test results in type II diabetic patients. Triglycerides - Glucomannan might be the reason for decrease in test results and serum triglycerides in healthy adults.

How Glucomannan Interacts With Diseases and Conditions?

Diabetic patients should be cautious while taking glucomannan because it may lessen blood glucose and may show interaction with anti-diabetic drugs. Surgery - Glucomannan powder may cause change in blood glucose level. Glucomannan may be responsible for blood glucose control after and during surgical activities. What Should Be the Dose/Administration of Glucomannan?

ORAL • For weight loss in adults, 1 gram of glucomannan should be utilized trice in whole day (one hour before each meal) and for weight loss in infants, 2 to 3 grams per day has been used. • For the treatment of type II diabetes with hyperlipidemia, dosage should be between 3.6 to 10.6 grams in whole day. • For developing resistance of insulin syndrome, dosage should be between 8 to 13 grams in whole day. • For hypercholesterolemia, dosage should be 1.2 grams of chitosan along 1.2 grams glucomannan in whole day.
