How Jiaogulan Works?

The most effective part of Jiaogulan Gynostemma is its leaves. Jiaogulan leaves consists of a huge number of triterpene saponins alluded to as gypenosides. Large portions of gypenosides are alike to the ginsenosides found in Panax ginseng. For instance, gypenoside 3 is same to gypenoside 4, ginsenoside Rb1 is the same as gypenoside 8 and ginsenoside Rb3 is the same as ginsenoside Rd. The saponins dosage in the leaves of jiaogulan is same as in ginseng roots. Therefore, jiaogulan is believed to have similar impacts as ginseng. Most jiaogulan items are standardized for the dosage of saponins they contain. But jiaogulan contains a wide variety of gypenosides, which makes standardizing as per particular gypenosides difficult. There is some proof that jiaogulan powder has antioxidant properties. There as some confirmations that the constituents of gypenoside have some cardiovascular impacts i.e. it may prevent the development of atherosclerosis. Clinical experiments also recommend that gypenosides in jiaogulan have anti-lipid peroxidation effects and save the vascular endothelial cells and their membranes from oxidative stress. In animal research jiaogulan appears to heart rate, increase coronary blood flow, blood vessel resistance, protect against cerebral ischemic harm and inhibit platelet aggregation. There are some studies which recommends that a mixture of jiaogulan with Crataegus cuneata (Hawthorn) and Nelumbo nucifera (Lotus seed or flower) may have a triglyceride- cholesterol lowering impact. Clinical experiments also suggest that jiaogulan may have immunostimulatory and possible anti-cancer effects. Some clinical experiments also suggest that hot water extract of Jiaogulan Gynostemma consists of components that incite platelet aggregation. It is not known if this element may influence different tissues or cells.
