How Nutmeg Works?
Myristica fragrans contains volatile oil with constituent such as elemicin, myristicin, isoeugenol, eugenol, safrole, pinese, gerinol, borneol and cineole. These constituents have different type of individual pharmacological impacts and some of which may antagonize others. The volatile oil borneol is thought to be in charge of CNS stimulant impacts, while a few others, for example, isoeugenol, methyleugenol, myristicin, safrole, geranyl acetic acid derivation, 1,8-cineole and 1,8-p-methadiene appear to have narcotic impacts. 1, 8-cineole and Alpha- and beta-pinene appear to have convulsant activity, while methyleugenol, eugenol and safrole have anticonvulsant effects. What Are The Side Effects /Adverse Reactions of Nutmeg?
Myristica fragrans can lead to serious side effects in an over dose. Anticholinergic effects may surface with a dose of nine teaspoons of nutmeg powder. These effects include dry mouth, tachycardia and flushing. Higher amount can result in serious side effects. For instance, ingestion of five grams or more of powdered nutmeg or mace can result in dry mouth, thirst, burning epigastric pain, nausea and vomiting, weak pulse, urgency, hypotension, tachycardia, feeling of pressure in the chest or lower abdomen, flushing, sweating, hot and cold sensations, dizziness, hypothermia, double and triple vision, blurred vision, nystagmus, miosis, numbness, headache, unsteady gait, weakness, stupor, drowsiness, euphoria, disorientation, panic, anxiety, often with sensation of limb loss and fear of impending death, mild to intense visual hallucinations, agitation, auditory hallucinations, aimless wandering, coma, hyperactivity, combativeness, incoherent and irrelevant speech, shock, seizures and sometime death. Most of these symptoms are due to excessive anticholinergic activity. Symptoms mostly occur 2 to 6 hours after ingestion.
In Pregnant Ladies - Excessive dosage of nutmeg can cause abortion.

What Should Be the Dose/Administration of Nutmeg?
ORAL Most frequently used dosage of nutmeg in order to treat flatulence is 0.03 mL nutmeg oil.
For chronic diarrhea, gastric upset or nausea issues, the common dosage is 3 to 5 drops of the essential oil in honey or on a sugar lump.
