The members of this plant family include daisies, chrysanthemums, marigolds, ragweed and others.

Diabetes - Use of elecampane powder may derange the control of blood glucose, especially in patients suffering from diabetes. Hypotension and Hypertension - Usage of Inula heleniumand may alter the control of blood pressure in some individuals. Surgery - There are some CNS depressant impacts reported in human body due to usage of elecampane powder. It may also be responsible for additive CNS depression when mixed with anesthesia and other drugs during and after surgical procedures. So, patients are advised to stop the use of elecampane powder at least two weeks before their elective surgical procedures.

What Should Be the Dose/Administration of Elecampane?

ORAL • Common dosage of elecampane is 1.5 to 4 grams of rhizome or root used thrice every day. • It is used as tea that is made by boiling 1.5 to 4 grams rhizome or root into 150 mL water for continuously 5-10 minutes. This tea should not be used more than thrice every day. • As a liquid extract (with ratio of 1:1 in 25% concentrated alcohol) 1.5 to 4 mL of the extract should be used thrice every day. • Dose of alantolactone as an anti-helminthic for adults should be 300 mg used on daily basis as 2 courses used for 5 days, with an interval of 10 days between these two courses. • Dose of alantolactone for children should be 50-200 mg daily.
