How Pulsatilla Works?

The most effective parts of Anemone pulsatilla are all parts which are above the ground. Pulsatilla has antispasmodic, analgesic, antibacterial and sedative properties. It exhibits both depressant and uterine stimulant activities. Pulsatilla also consists of ranunculin. Ranunculin hydrolyzes to a lethal unstable constituent known as protoanemonin, which readily dimerizes to anemonin having nontoxic properties. Central nervous system (CNS) stimulation is reported because of Protoanemonin, followed byparalysis in experimental animals. Both protoanemonin and anemonin show some antipyretic and sedative activity. Irritation of the urinary tract and kidney maybe because of the alkylating action caused by protoanemonin. Initial studies also recommends that anemonin may also have cytotoxic effects.

What Are The Side Effects /Adverse Reactions of Pulsatilla?

Orally - Fresh part of pulsatilla powder may lead to toxic gastrointestinal (GI) irritation. It may also cause urinary and kidney tract irritation. Topically - The topical application of pulsatilla powder can cause skin irritation, itching complaints, mucous membrane irritation and formation of pustule called as ranunculus dermatitis. Inhalation - By Inhalation of volatile oil, which contain protoanemonin, may cause conjunctival irritation and nasal mucosal. Allergic effects have been reported with patch tests.
