How Sour Cherry Works?

The most effect parts of Prunus cerasus are the stem and fruit. Sour cherry fruit consist of vitamin A, vitamin C, small amount of vitamin E, alpha-linolenic acid, folacin thiamine, beta-carotene and other constituents. Clinical studies also report that it contains a number of antioxidants including quercetin, kaempferol and melatonin. The melatonin constituent seems to differ between various types of sour cherry. Initial studies also confirm that compounds in sour cherry may have anti-inflammatory activity, which is actually 10 times powerful as compared to aspirin but without aspirin's adverse effects. The stem part of the sour cherry further consist of an isoflavone constituent, prunetin 5-O-beta-D-glycopyranoside.
